Professor Timothy sedore

Rev. Dr. Timothy Sedore is Professor of English at The City University of New York, Bronx Community College. He regularly teaches undergraduate courses in composition, literature and religious rhetoric and has taught graduate-level courses in pedagogy and composition studies. He came to BCC in 1998. Rev. Dr. Sedore’s interest in the American Civil War monument and its place on the American landscape has led to numerous publications and conference papers. His work includes a recently completed trilogy of published studies in this area. Mississippi Civil War Monuments: The Illustrated Field Guide and Tennessee Civil War Monuments: The Illustrated Field Guide [http://www.iupress.indiana.edu] were published by Indiana University Press in February and March 2020, respectively.

His first book, An Illustrated Guide to Virginia’s Confederate Monuments, was published by (Southern Illinois University Press in 2011 [www.siupress.com]). The publication of these books completes a trilogy of field studies of the American Civil War monument in states of the former Confederacy, where most of the war’s battles and campaigns took place and most of the wartime Southern population was concentrated. His ambition now is to build on that multi-volume foundation by way of a second trilogy, this time of Pennsylvania, New York, and revisiting Virginia to research the Union Civil War monument in the Commonwealth.

Rev. Dr. Sedore completed his undergraduate work at New York, his Master of Arts degree in English from Arizona State University, and his doctorate, in English education, from Teachers College, Columbia University. He was ordained to the ministry by the Ordination Council of the Southwest Baptist Association of the Commonwealth of Virginia and is active in campus ministries and preaching engagements at various churches and ecumenical gatherings. He earned a Master of Arts degree in Religious Studies in 2011 and a Master of Divinity degree in theology in 2016.
